How to use bodyweight exercises so you can workout anywhere

When most people decide they want to start getting fit, their usual plan is to join the gym and start walking on the treadmill everyday. Then when they don’t see results, they give up and decide fitness just isn’t right for them. Ok so here’s the thing, I’m not knocking the treadmill. Its a good way to get moving and will always be a nice foundational exercise, but if you’re like me, you want to actually see results and you want to maximize your workout time. So that’s why it’s better to do what we call building lean muscle. Lean muscle doesn’t mean you’ll get big and bulky, it just means you’re decreasing your body fat percentage. I have another secret for you: muscle take up less space than fat, this is how someone cant look so different, while still having the same number on the scale.

Lower body fat percentage means they’ve built up more lean muscle. So I always tell people, if you wanna look leaner, if you wanna look fitter, if you wanna look ELECTRIC, add strength training to your fitness routine. And the easiest way to get started is learning some easy bodyweight exercises.

Burns Fat 

When you strength train, you continue burning calories even after you’ve stopped exercising, something that doesn’t happen with just cardio. Which is why its a more efficient way of burning fat. Also, when you build lean muscle you burn more calories when you’re doing everyday tasks. It’s said that, for every pound of muscle you gain, your body burns around 35-50 calories per day. So, if you gain 10 pounds of muscle, you can burn up to 500 more calories per day than you did when you were weaker!


Take Up Less Time

A properly programmed and well executed strength training program takes up half the time of running on the treadmill for an hour, and gives you even better long term results. You don’t have to spend hours and hours at the gym just to get in a good workout.

It costs you ZERO dollars

Bodyweight strength training doesn’t require any special equipment, a fancy gym membership or even any workout clothing. All you need is a little space and a knowledge of the correct basic techniques. You even have the option of adding weights to your training, and you can do that for free too! Cans of food or filled water bottles work as well as dumbbells.

You Can Do It Anywhere

Not only do you need no special equipment or clothing to enjoy the benefits of bodyweight strength training, but these workouts can be done anywhere, meaning you can fit them into your daily routine with just 10 or 15 minutes of time.Try squatting in the break room at work, do lunges while making your dinner, or do a few glute bridges right before you shower in the morning.

So what is a squat? I know we’re all familiar with the exercise, but most people don’t even realize they perform this exercise almost everyday of their lives. A squat is as simple as standing straight up from a seated position. That’s it, that’s the tweet. It works your core, you lower body, and its low impact meaning its easy on the knees


Just one foot in front of the other, that’s the basic gist of this simple exercise. A lunge is a single-leg bodyweight exercise that works your hips, glutes, quads, hamstrings, core, and the hard-to-reach muscles of the inner thigh. Plenty of lean muscle to build there.

Glute bridge

Pop quiz: what’s the largest muscle in the human body? Yep, you guessed it. Our glutes are the biggest chance for us to build lean muscle, and the glute bridge is one of the most effective exercises to build the glutes.


I know core strength is a big buzz term right now, but its much more than just having killer abs. Your core is the most important muscle group in the body and should be the top area to work on when embarking on an exercise plan. During our normal, everyday life we use our core constantly – during lifting, twisting, reaching and bending. Planks are one of the best exercises for a strong core, and once you have a stronger core, you’re on the road to building a healthier you, your everyday tasks become easier, and you’ll feel stronger.
